Blogging Applications
I admit that I have had a hard time seeing the benefits to blogging, but now I see a very worthwhile application. One of my classmates posted a blog with a link to a current event which has made the news recently. In his blog, he posts links to the BBC and the following blog where the world is able to become aware of what is going on in Rangoon, Mandalay and Pakokku. What a great dynamic forum for spreading information throughout the world. Check out his blog: http://1stblogexprmnt.blogspot.com/ along with his link to these very graphic pictures and captions: http://ko-htike.blogspot.com/ .

This doesn’t compare to the issues of Rangoon, Mandalay and Pakokku. But it is an example of blogging. The first time I ever used a blog (outside of class) was to find out more about the dog food recall. I was worried about the food I was feeding my dog so I called the pet store-they knew nothing. I called the company-no answer. I looked at some blogs and that is where I found the information I was looking for. It was also interesting in that the bloggers knew what was going on before the pet food stores. What effect will this have with the media? Even though it may take a little more work I think we can get more accurate information from a blog rather than always relying on the media. Another example is the Jena 6 case. There story really got out there through a blog.
I’m new to blogging, but I must say that the more I blog and the more I read others blogs I can see that it is a way to receive and deliver information very quickly.
I agree that is pretty dramtic. I think blogging (both reading a writing them) grows on you like a digital fungus.
That’s part of the beauty I guess. I think that being connectd this way is just the beginning, blogs are a trend, and things will change because they do. Lets find out what makes blogs special so we can carry that over.
I would really like to see what a digital fungus looks like, do you think someone can give me a visual? I like blogging. It has been useful to me. The hardest part for me is the time it takes but I think Brent’s assignment and especially since he cut it down has helped me. I know I will continue blogging especially as I discover more things with digital storytelling.
that is pretty cool. Sometimes the media can spin things, and I guess blogging can help you get a point of view from someone actually experiencing an event.
I’m still not sure about blogging. I think it is a wonderful tool for people who are traveling the world and have things to share. I guess you dont’ have to be traveling the world to have things to share, but if I had something to share, I would call people or meet with them. I have to say I have found wonderful information in blogs, but they are hard to me personally to keep up with. I just don’t have a lot of free time to spend online.
I notice that class members seem to respond well to issues relating to blogging – its value and uses. That’s good. We’re all trying to figure out what this tool means for us in our classrooms, or as professionals sharing and holding conversations.
kiddkc88 is certainly right about how the mainstream media can spin things, and they definitely don’t like the bloggers “horning in” on their territory. I think the competition can only help improve the quality of the information we get.
